Weekly Notices, Term 3, Week 6

Bonjour to all Parents and Caregivers,

Firstly, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU kids you have been absolute rockstars this week with our online learning. YOu have earnt your quite a few Dojo points for work completeion and our daily competitions. I would like to thank all parents and caregivers for the wonderful work they have been doing with homeschooling their children during the level 4 covid-19 lockdown. I hope you have had no problems accessing the learning on the Middle School Kahikatea site. If you have any issues please give me an email jilld@stmarysrotorua.school.nz. Remember that all the information regarding home learning can be found on the class blog from either this week or last week. If you have any concerns or questions do not hesitate to contact me. I realise that many parents will be working from home and that time to help children with their learning may be limited. The learning posted on the site is intended to be independent work for the children as much as possible. Please encourage your child to do as much work as is feasible given the lockdown realities in your household bubble.

You will be well aware now that we are planning to be moving from Alert Level 4 to 3 and this takes effect from midnight on Tuesday 31st August. The school is presently in the midst of planning for this change of alert levels. The school will be opening in a limited way only. Please see the link below for information about which children are able to attend at alert level 3.

Here is a link to the information Mr Macmillan has sent out by email.

We need all parents and caregivers to answer a survey by Monday 9.00am regarding their needs during alert level 3. Surveys for all classes are on the link above.

Here is a link to the Room 12 survey only

Home learning will therefore continue for the vast majority of children during Alert Level 3. We will continue to have our daily Google Meet session from 10-10:45am every morning during the week. Room 12s theme for Monday is Crazy. The children have already been told about this. If a child doesn't have a pet to show they could bring along something else to share with the class.

Week 4-Term 3-2021

 Bula Vinaka everyone.

We were so blessed to have such beautiful weather for this weekend. Although windy, seeing the sun out is uplifting for our spirits. Mrs. Dinniss and her netball team took out the senior A cup which was very exciting.

This morning at our 10am mass we had a lovely turnout of students coming to celebrate the Assumption of Mary. There was a procession shortly after mass where we walked with some parishioners around the block. It was a heartwarming experience.

Last week we celebrated  Maths Week, we had great fun doing the group challenges and winning prizes for our maths. We also celebrated Mary Mackillop Day with mass and fun school activities. The children had such a great time learning about the person who established our school. Below are some photos of the afternoon tabloid sports.

Our children have just started learning about how to recite a poem for our annual Kahikatea Poetry Competition. Please encourage your child to learn their poem by memory. Classroom competitions start in week 5. We will be looking for expression in our students' voices, the use of gestures/ actions as they read, and trying to gain the attention of their audience through the projection of their voices.

We had a special guest on Friday with a guest appearance by Harry who was back in Rotorua for the day. Was great to catch up with him.

What's happening this week:

Wed: Kapa Haka practices

Thur: School liturgy on the Assumption of Mary at 12:15,  Library day

Fri: Rm 12 will be attending Parish Mass at 9am/ Pasifika and Choir practices.

We hope you all have a wonderful week.

Week 3 - Term 3 - 2021

 WEEK 3 TERM 3 2021

Kia ora,

It's hard to believe that we are entering into Week three and the start of August. The daffodils outside R12 have started to bloom, which means longer days and warmer weather to come. Today is the  Feast Day of Mary MacKillop and we will be celebrating this on Friday. Last Friday middle school were part of the Novena to Our Lady, in preparation for the Feast of the ‘Assumption of Mother Mary into heaven’ on 15th August the kids were amazing, they read and sang beautifully

Next Sunday, the parish has a Māori Miha (Māori Mass) at 10.00 am followed by a procession carrying the statue of Mother Mary around the Church and our school. All students from the schools are invited to join the procession with their parents at 11.00 am in front of St Mary’s Church. Staff are also invited to be part of this. There is a shared lunch after the procession that everyone is invited to and families are asked to bring a plate to share.

Thank you for attending the 3 way conferences. The conferences are always a good time for parents to hear what their children have done and hear what the goals are for the next little while. Please if you were unable to attend contact and we will make a time that works.

We will be starting our KOS programme throughout the school. This Monday night Viv Sutton is hosting a ‘Keeping Ourselves Safe’ Information meeting:

There is a community hui at St Mary's School on Monday 9 August, 5.15-6pm, in Room 14, where I will explain what the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme entails, and share some tips about keeping your young ones safe. You are encouraged to attend.

The library day has changed and will no be on a Thursday. Please help your child to remember their books so that they can take out new ones.

Please if you are eating yummy apples and need a chart let Mrs. Dinniss know and she will print you off a form. We receive P.E. gear for the stickers collected.

Have an enjoyable week.

Life Education

Today we had the last session with Harold. We learnt a lot about how to be a good friends. What we can do if someone is being me or bulling us. We learn that we could look them in the eye, with our shoulders back and say clearly:

Stop I don't like that.

Dude that's Rude!

That has hurt my feelings.

We learnt the difference between being a bully, mean and being rude. Please ask us about it.

Next two days

Congratulations to our classroom winners. In my eyes, everyone is a winner. When we have had relievers in they have all commented on what a...
