Swimming

We are so lucky to have Henk here with Room 12 over the next two weeks working on our swimming skills. Our swimming has really improved in the past three days. The pool is so warm! We have worked on our freestyle and backstroke techniques as well as our start. Swimming is so important so that we can be safe while having fun.

Last week, the students had a fantastic time swimming with Henk, learning a drumming sequence, getting their green ticks on Maths Whizz, and becoming more familiar with classroom routines. Week 4 Term 1 - 2021

Week 4 Notices

Welcome to week 4,

I trust you have had a lovely weekend, we have truly been blessed with fabulous weather. It sure was a topsy turvy week with the country changing lockdown levels. We were so relieved to be at Level 2 and to still be able to work alongside our learners. It is a nice feeling knowing that we are now down to Level 1.

Ash Wednesday was celebrated with a beautiful Liturgy in our school hall last week. We got to meet our new parish priest Fr Thomas. No doubt he is going to deliver the Gospel to us in an engaging and meaningful way. Our students have made a promise during Lent to try and give up some kind of treat such as ice cream or chocolate. It would be interesting to see how strong their willpower is. Watch this space.

We also had our beginning of the year mass in the church celebrating our new families. It was lovely to see some parents come to mass.

What's on this week:

There is swimming every day this week. Please make sure your child has their togs and towel packed. Goggles are optional.

Mon: Cricket

Wed: Go by Bike Day.

Thurs: Singing Practice

Fri: Rm 14/15 Assembly. All are welcome.

Reminders:

Our school Gala is just around the corner. Actually, it is in week 5 on Thursday. Here is the list of things we are hoping to collect over the next few days.

Headphones: If your child has not yet got their headphones, they are available at the office for about $6.

Sunhats: Please ensure your child has their sunhat with them every day to show they are a Sun Smart Kid.

Wishing you all a lovely week.

God Bless

Kahikatea Teachers.

Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. Father placed an ash cross on our forehead to represent the death and repentance of our sins. We created Lent promises that we are going to try and keep for the next 40days.

Happy Unbirthday Room 12

In room 12 we like to celebrate, after working out our birthdays we realized that 5 students have birthdays in January and never get to celebrate so we are celebrating them this week. Today was Frasers unbirthday and we got to make sherbert, it was so much fun.

WEEK 3, TERM 1, 2021.

Kia ora Whānau,

Thank you for your support last week, while I was out. I have discovered what I am quite allergic to Pepper Weed. I managed to pull up a plant on Friday before the team meeting and I touched my face only to have my lip swell up to look like I had been punched. Thank you to Susie Bye who was willing to step up for me.

Our focus this week will continue to be on building relationships, establishing our Class Treaty, getting to know one another, and putting some routines in place.

Huge thank you to everyone for the donations towards our Mufti Day the total hasn't been calculated but all your support will be appreciated. Congratulations to Mill Hill for a great start in winning the tug of war competition.

What is on:

Monday - Anne Cato will be in to talk about cyber safety and cricket in Schools

Tuesday - library

Thursday - Singing practice

Wednesday - Ash Wednesday Liturgy 9:00

Friday school Mass 9:00

Week 2 Term 1 2021

Weekly Notices, Term1, Week 2

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me last week. Please feel free to come in and have a chat at any time. It is a short week, which is a great way to ease our children back into school mode without too much of a shock to the system. I, unfortunately, will not be in class on Tuesday as that rash I was struggling with has gotten worse. After two trips to the doctors, I am on some strong antihistamine and an interesting array of drugs and think that I am coming around. I have the wonderful Mrs. Bye coming in for me on Tuesday. She is a fantastic teacher and will welcome your children into this new year. As soon as the spots and itch disappear I will be back.

Just a few week reminders for the week:
No swimming this week, Middle School will be swimming on even weeks starting in Week 4
Tuesday: Powhiri and Waitangi Liturgy at 10:15am.
Friday: Golden Time Interschool House Competition Tug of War

The Diocese Commissioning Mass is on Thursday 18th February at 6.00pm in Tauranga
Sun-safety
Don't forget your sunhat. Our sun is pretty strong this summer so we need to be extra careful.
If you have any questions, do send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
Have a wonderful week!

Welcome to Room 12

Feb. 3 2020

Welcome to Room 12,

I am so excited to be part of the Kahikatea team again this year.

I would describe my class as an active class. I like to build strong relationships based on a teamwork frame where children follow the golden rules which allow them the opportunity to thrive.

My classroom door is open from 8:30am and till 4:00 if you would like to meet me. Or you are welcome to email me to set up an alternative time. jilld@stmarysrotorua.school.nz

Swimming

We will be swimming starting Week 4, the expectation is that all students swim all week, spare togs will be provided if there is no note explaining why students are unable to swim.

Homework

In our team, the expectation is that children read/or are read to every night for at least 20mins.

Spelling words can be found on our Kahikatea website, these words are based on our phonics programme.

If students are getting their work done at school there should be no follow-up work, other than occasional R.E. homework.

Chromebooks
Chromebooks are a fantastic tool to enhance our students' learning. Please encourage your child
to take ownership of charging their computers every night. Students should bring their computers
every day. Chromebooks are to be taken home every night.

Parent Help & Part of the C.R.E.W Term Focus in Room12 :
I really appreciate having parent helpers throughout the year. Without this help, I would not be able toprovide many of the larger learning experiences for your child. Please let me know if you are ever
available to help out, whether it be through sitting alongside a child in the class to listen to them
read or if you have any resources that you would like to donate to room 12

Regards,
Jill Dinniss
