Week 5 - Term 4 - 2021

Welcome to Week 5 Term 4

Aloha parents and whānau, welcome to week 5!

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend and managed to find time to relax with your family. We are over halfway through the term and the busyness is well and truly upon us. We had a fantastic day at Athletics on Monday. The kids all did so well and it was awesome to have some parent helpers as well. A huge congratulations to those students who competed in the gymnastics competition, I know you have been practising hard all year.

Just a friendly reminder that all students need to bring their hats to school, we know how harsh our New Zealand sun is. Also, please continue checking that your child is bringing their device to school fully charged. We will be doing some assessments this week, which students will require their Chromebooks for.

With Delta cases now in Rotorua, sanitising and staying home if unwell is more important than ever. Please do not send your child to school if they are sick.

We have some exciting learning ahead this week, including the Making a Difference Swimming Programme (Tuesday - Friday) and a hands-on experience from the Rotorua Museum called The Outreach Taniwha Programme.

Coming up this week:

Monday - No swimming.

Tuesday - Swimming

- Museum programme R12

Wednesday - Swimming

Thursday -
Swimming, Library

Friday -
Swimming

          - Golden Time.

Stay safe and have a lovely Sunday evening,

Week 4 - Term 4 - 2021

 - November 07, 2021

Warm and joyful greetings to you all as I write this post admiring the beautiful sunny weather we are having this Sunday morning.

Thank you for all your support with our Healthy Class Zespri, the kids have been striving for points to cross the world checkpoints. We have already walked over halfway across New Zealand. We get bonus points for eating fruit and veggies and drinking water.

Congratulations to all the kids from room 12 that have been playing sports. It is wonderful to see so many kids giving Touch, Cricket and Futsal a go. Keep it up!

We would like to express our gratitude to all families that helped and supported our school with the working bee yesterday. It was a very successful day with such a great turnout. Plenty of jobs were completed. Thank you once again for your extra helping hands. It is great to see manaakitanga ( kindness) and kotahitanga ( unity) in action at our school.

Swimming this week is cancelled and we will swim again in week 5.

Special Mention: Congratulations to these families:

Thank you everyone for your support in this.

Welcome back to Term 4

Weekly Notices, Term 4, Week 1

Welcome back to Term 4 all parents, caregivers and children. We hope that children had a refreshing break and you are enjoying the nice Spring weather (on most days). It is going to be a very busy term with a lot of things happening, including the St Mary's RE Review in Week One. We will have special visitors checking out our lovely Catholic School on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The library for us this term will be on Thursdays.

Covid-19

As you are no doubt aware NZ is in the midst of a Covid-19 Delta variant outbreak. St Mary's will continue to operate under Level 2 restrictions. We are continuing to ask parents not to enter the school except for essential matters. If you do need to come in you must wear a mask and sign in at the school office (or use the NZ covid tracer app). We will need to continue to use basic hygiene measures such as handwashing, use of sanitiser, cough and sneeze etiquette and regularly cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces. We will continue to make sure everyone sanitises or wash hands as they enter inside spaces. Please help us by encouraging children to use these practices at home and at school.

THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY

This month is the month of the Rosary and we would normally, as a school, come together to pray. We will be doing things a bit differently due to Level 2 covid-19 protocols so most activities will happen within classes or teams.

Swimming Term 4

The pool is in perfect condition for swimming. Thanks to Richard for preparing the pool. The water temperature is around 30 degrees, so it is warm. The pool is a great facility and we expect that all children will have their swimming togs with them when our class is timetabled for swimming. Room 12 will be swimming every day on weeks 2, 5,6 and 8. All students are expécted to swim and will need a notice explaining why they will not be swimming. Those without togs will be given a pair of spare togs.

SUMMER UNIFORM

Summer Uniform is to be worn from Monday. Please make sure children are not wearing part summer, part winter uniform.

Lots of parents have been in to sort out summer uniforms. Students are to start Term 4 in full summer uniform. Our Uniform Shop is open Mondays (8.30-9.00am), Wednesdays (2.30-3.00pm) & Fridays (8.30-9.00am) during term time. The girls’ summer dresses are currently only available from our school uniform shop. Please don’t forget children need to wear the school sun hats in term 4.

We also sell school uniforms via our school website. You can order and pay online and pick up your uniform from the school reception after you have been notified by email that the uniform is ready to pick up. Hopefully, this will be easier for those parents who find it difficult to get to our uniform shop.
