 April 11, 2021

Welcome to Week 11

April 12th - 16th

Bonjour Parents and Caregivers

We are about to commence the last week of Term 1, which will be followed by the beginning of two week's school holidays. It has been a busy term with lots of important learning and everyone is feeling ready for a break to recharge the batteries. Thank you for all the support and encouragement you have given your children, and the school, over the course of Term 1.
Swimming is finished until Term 4 and children will not be required to wear a hat next term when outside.
On Sunday we had many of our students being confirmed and making their First Holy Communion. This is a very exciting time for them, please keep them in your prayers.

Coming up this week:

- No Swimming this week.
- Cricket on Monday
- Library  on Tuesday
- ICT Club on Thursday.
- No assembly this week
- Interschool Swimming Sports
- Senior School Art Exhibition - Friday.

Two Messages From Mr Macmillan:

During the holidays we celebrate ANZAC Day (Sunday 25th April). I am hoping to have a strong representation from our school attending the parade. If your child would like to join us and walk in the parade and participate in the Civic Ceremony at the Bay Trust Forum, Energy Events Centre, Queens Drive please make sure they are at the Lakefront Memorial (intersection of Fenton St and Whakaue Streets)  by 8.30am in their winter school uniform. Jersey, not fleece top. The ceremony concludes at the Energy Events Centre and should be over by 11.00am Parents are also invited to be part of the parade and service. Children just might want to be part of the parade. If you have a poppy your child can wear, please pin it on them. I will have some spare ones to give to children at the parade.  This is a very special ceremony so I do encourage our children to be part of this. ALL STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.’

At the start of Term 2 children must be in winter uniform. Uniforms can be bought from our uniform shop. The shop is open Monday 8.30am, Wednesday at 2.30pm, Friday at 8.30am and on Monday, the first day back in Term 2, at 8.30pm. I want to make sure our students are wearing the correct uniform in Term 2.  At this point, I would also like to mention that our Lost Property is *overflowing* with items left around the schoolyard by students.

Friendly Reminders:

- Chromebooks need to come to school charged. As we are a BYOD school, many of our learning activities now require devices. Headphones are essential, please. If your child's Chromebook is not working, I recommend contacting Paul (see contact details below).
- Please LABEL your children's clothing, we have quite a few issues with shorts/dresses ending up on the wrong body.
- If you need headphones still, Kmart, The Warehouse, or school have them ranging in price from $8
-Please collect bread tags and yummy stickers, if you need a chart please have your child come and see Mrs. Dinniss

Have a great week.

Week 9 Highlights

 Week 9 - Term 1

01/04/2021
by Jill Dinniss

Week 9

This is has been a fantastic week in R12 this week. We have had no interruptions, and it's Holy Week.

Maths:

Children should be able to complete their Math Whizz time at home. If you would like to practise at home, have your child do doubles and halves or 2, 5, 10, 11 times tables as if they learn these the others are easier.

This week our focus has been on compensation/place value subtraction questions at different levels.

46 - 27= 40 - 20 = 20+6 = 26 - 7= 19

Writing this week we have been focusing on meeting our individual goals and learning all about adjectives. Adjectives are describing words for our nouns. Check out our silly stories and our Monday Funday write. We are very proud of our writing this week and how we have made it interesting for others to read. We didn't do our spelling words this week and will test on Wednesday so if you have a chance over the next five days please have a read.

This is a very important week in the Catholic church, we have been learning all about the week that led up to Jesus's resereaction. Please ask us what we have learnt. We celebrated this week with a last supper, breaking of the bread (students received a hot cross bun) and fruit. Thank you to Mrs. T. who provided us with figs they were fantastic.

We will be swimming for three days when we go back to school next week. Please put in togs and a towel. The pool is heated so the children will be warm while swimming. This will be our last week of swimming for term 1.

There is no school on Friday, Monday or Tuesday next week.

Have a lovely weekend with your family.

Mrs. D

Congrats

Well done gang. We had a very nice compliment from our librarian about how settled and into reading our class is when we are in the Library. This confirms it. 200 books well done.

Talofa everyone. Last week was a jam-packed week full of so many exciting events. Our swimming sports last Monday was a real success. I am sending out a big congratulations to all our students who gave it a go and gave it their best. Also to our parent helpers, we are so grateful to have supportive parents who can help during the event. Thank you so much for giving up some time to help in this.

Congratulations to Fraser, Ian and James for completing 9 holes of golf in a school competition over at the Mount.

There were intense touch finals and a Pasifika Group performance that happened over the weekend. I am looking forward to hearing about how these went. If your child was involved in any of these events, and you took some photos, please email them to me and I will post them onto our blog.

Week 8 - Term 1 - 2021

 March 21, 2021

 Talofa everyone

It's hard to believe it's week 8 already.  It's been a busy week with senior camps, St. Josephs Day Mass and activities and of course, the Gala which was a huge success.  Many thanks for the ongoing parent/family support we get for these events and occasions to be successful.  The Gala was a wonderful community event with many past pupils attending to help or connect.

Tomorrow is our Swimming Sports at the Aquatic Centre.  The weather looks good and it will be our first time using the renovated pool.  Children will be swimming the width of the pool this year (25m) instead of the length (50m).

Congratulations to Zoe and Lydia who participated in the Ocean Kids swim race Saturday.
